Armando Silva Reads “What Happened to My Paletas?”

Have you read the new book featuring Delta Park?

“What Happened to My Paletas?” tells the story of Calixto, a man looking for his lost cart of paletas. Along the way Calixto meets several Delta Park neighbors who help him in his quest. Designed and illustrated by Greeley artist Armando Silva, this colorful book is something all ages can enjoy.

Armando recently stopped by The Midnight Oil bookstore (827 10th Street) to give a live reading of the book… and to enjoy a tasty paleta. The room was filled to the brim with friends and families eager to experience the new book and grab Armando’s autograph.

The Storybook Project

The Trust for Public Land is collaborating with local artist Armando Silva, the City of Greeley, and Unite for Literacy to develop a series of storybooks. The first book, “What Happened to My Paletas?” is part of the master plan process for Delta Park and showcases characters inspired by Delta Park residents and their diverse neighborhood.

The storybook project is meant to elevate the community’s voice during the renovation of Delta Park. The books also double as a literacy tool to improve reading skills in the community. Local schools, libraries, and the surrounding community are distributing the storybooks for free.

A digital version of the book is also available online at UniteforLiteracy.com. While there, you can flip through the pages of the book and have Armando read the book to you. One day, the city hopes to have the book available in several languages such as English, Spanish, Somali, Arabic, and more. Why wait? Enjoy the video Armando’s Midnight Oil reading now!

Like what you see and hear? Another book for the storybook project is in the works. This time, readers will take a trip to Greeley’s newest natural area. We can’t wait to see how Armando tells nature’s story through his vibrant artwork! Stay tuned for more information.
